Body Style
Late model bodies are made of fiberglass and sheet aluminum. In 2002 a group of asphalt track promoters met with body manufacturers Aluminum Racing Products (ARP) and Five Star to develop a uniform approved body configuration.

Chassis and Suspension
Late models have two types of chassis for asphalt racing.
Super Late Models offset favoring the left. Significant things such as the rear end and engine are positioned to the left while suspensions are constructed with maximum adjustability in mind.
Other asphalt late models use perimeter rail (symmetrical) chassis where it is equal on both sides instead of favoring one.
Engines
Late model engine specifications vary between sanctioning bodies. Some use open engines which are typically American naturally aspirated V8s with upwards of 600 horsepower. Other sanctioning bodies may require crate motors which can limit to 400-500 horsepower.

Engines
Legend cars have previously run Yamaha XJ1250/FJ1200 engines, which are air cooled. In 2018 they started using Yamaha FZ-09 engines which are water cooled. They can reach a top speed of 125mph, have 72lbs of torque and an 11.4 to 1 compression ratio.
